The new Aston Martin Vanquish has been spotted testing ahead of its anticipated launch in 2019, featuring a more aggressive look
Aston Martin is well under way with development on the all-new Vanquish ahead of its anticipated launch in 2019, as spy shots from the Nurburgring reveal.
Aston plans to launch one all-new car every year up to 2023. The new Vanquish will follow the V8 Vantage into showrooms, which debuts later this year ahead of going on sale in early 2018.
Prototypes of the new Vanquish show that it shares a similar shape to the current DB11. Notable differences in the matte black test mule are found at the front of the car, with larger headlights, more prominent bonnet vents and a wider front grille that resembles the ultra-rare One-77.
Towards the rear of the car, the Vanquish test mule retains its quad exhaust system from the current model, which differentiates it from the dual setup on the DB11. Much slimmer LED rear lamps can also be picked out beneath the body cladding of the test mule, while a new active spoiler, adopted from the DB11, can also be seen
The bulk of visual changes over the DB11 will all be made to aid aerodynamic efficiency, as the British marque is looking to develop the Vanquish into a more performance orientated supercar rather than a fast GT cruiser - a market now occupied by the DB11.

Handsomer DB11 with more grunt
Aston Martin appears to be getting the 2019 Vanquish ready for action, as these spy shots from the Nürburgring show.
There's a lot of DB11 there at first glance, but let's take a closer look and try to spot most of the differences.
To begin with, the headlights and front fascia are different. There's more overall intake area upfront, with lower side vents and a much bigger grille opening. The headlights are rounder than the DB11s, and to this author's eyes more classic and attractive. The hood extractor vents are in a different place, large quadrangles instead of the DB11's long, narrow slits – although this could easily change for production, as this arrangement might only be for the mule. Moving to the side, the sills are wider and the wheels are larger, likely an inch greater diameter than the DB11's judging by the reduced sidewall. The car is also noticeably lower. Out back, the most obvious difference is the quad pipes. They nestle above a more aggressive rear diffuser.
So far, all this looks to be production-possible. Certainly the Vanquish will be positioned as a more aggressive, powerful version of the DB11, to which it's related. While the specific shapes may be tweaked slightly, everything we're seeing looks to communicate the Vanquish's mission effectively, and nothing looks unrenderable in metal or composite. Long story short: This looks like a nearly finalized exterior design.
Note that this isn't related to the Vanquish Zagato Volante we saw earlier this year. That car is a final hurrah for the old, VH-architecture Vanquish.
We expect the Vanquish to have more than the DB11's impressive 600 horsepower, so it can do battle with competitors from Ferrari like the 812 Superfast.

Hot on the heels of the upcoming V8 Vantage, the Vanquish will feature in Aston's model blitz as a harder, faster V12 model

Aston Martin is developing the most hardcore incarnation of the Vanquish yet seen in a bid to push the grand tourer model towards the realms of supercardom.
The rear-driven model will be launched in 2018, after the upcoming new V8 Vantage, with a higher performance focus than its grand tourer forebears. Much of this boost will come from the turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 engine under the bonnet, which will be ramped up so it produces considerably more than the 600bhp offered by the V12 DB11.
This will edge the next Vanquish away from traditional luxury rivals such as the Bentley Continental GT (itself soon to be replaced) and towards sharper performance offerings such as the Ferrari 812 Superfast.
